Croquet evening
Everyone really enjoyed our visit to Duncton Croquet club on a beautiful summer’s evening. Katharine greeted us and gave us some very useful starting hints about how to hold the mallet and how to make a good contact with the ball. Split into pairs we then went to starting positions and worked our way around the ten hoop course on the two beautiful green lawns. There was a mixture of laughter and focused concentration as we all started to get the hang of it. There was something very calming about the sound of the mallets hitting the balls and with a gorgeous warm evening and a gentle breeze everyone felt very relaxed and uplifted. After a second round each against a new pair of opponents it was time to hang up our mallets and prepare our shared supper.
We set out a long table in front of the clubhouse and there was a delicious spread of salads and puddings bought along by the members. Conversation flowed around the table but as the evening drew in it started to get chilly so we packed up and headed home.
Many thanks Katharine for hosting a wonderful evening. I’m not sure many of us will be making a croquet team any time soon but it was great fun to have a go!
