Village green tea party.
Our Centenary Year celebrations continued into August with a tea party on the Village Green. We were very lucky with the weather as the sun shone on tea tables set out with cream teas and cakes. We had several important guests from the West Sussex Federation as well as the Rector, Trish Bancroft, the Chair of the Parish council Tony Hubbard and his wife Lilly and Anne Barton from the Stedham Sports Association. Before tea we had a few important things to do. Our youngest member cut a beautiful celebration cake, generously made by Heather West and then two of our longest standing members, Betty West and Denise Knowles unveiled some plaques. The first on a sycamore tree on the green that the Stedham WI had planted in 1965 for the Golden Jubilee, and the second on a bench that was given to the village by the WI on our 75th anniversary. David Hill kindly bought his camera along to capture the occasion. During tea some of our members helped to plant a hundred purple crocuses under the tree in commemoration of our 100th anniversary this year. Fingers are crossed that they thrive and we see them in the spring.
