The Crop Circle Mystery

We had a stimulating evening this month with a talk by Andy Thomas, a passionate and knowledgeable researcher who told us all about crop circles. His engaging talk took us through the history of circles from their earliest records in 1678 to the present day; the improvements in technology for recording them and how to spot the attempts at fakes. He explained several theories about their existence including, geological, magnetic, freak weather and hoaxers and then went on to amaze us with research into the designs. There have been about 10,000 crop circles throughout the world of which we saw 120, all of them beautiful. Some were shown to be highly symbolic, astrological time maps, mathematical patterns and Fractal shapes, and a few looked very like communications from another world! Although he had plenty of theories he was still not able to conclusively say how they occur.

There were plenty of questions at the end, followed by refreshments and our usual raffle, notices and flower of the month. Next month we look forward to a Felting Workshop.
