Felting Workshop

Susan Hemmings led us in a really entertaining workshop this month. After a brief introduction and a chance to see some examples of Susan’s work we opened our felting kits to find a bright yellow sponge, some very long, sharp, barbed needles, and a selection of fleece of varying thickness and colour. Starting with a pipe cleaner we all quickly learned the technique for joining the fleece together using a repeated stabbing motion. Amongst a mixture of light hearted chatter and deep concentration, shapes gradually emerged that looked like guinea pigs, mice and slugs! Added colour, a button nose and eyes brought them to life and finally the woolly addition to represent spikes created the finishing touch to our little hedgehogs.

Everyone really enjoyed the chance to be creative under the friendly guidance of Susan and seemed very pleased with the little characters they had created. Joyce and Annie provided tasty refreshments before an Easter themed raffle and notices. Next month we look forward to a talk - Camouflage and Trickery in the animal kingdom.
