It’s Never Too Late…

One of our members, Jane, gave us a fascinating presentation on her recently completed Diploma at The Royal School of Needlework. After a busy career in teaching, Jane decided she would like to try something new. Textiles and sewing had always been an interest. By chance, on a trip to Hampton Court, she discovered a course that captured her imagination and she quickly enrolled!

Jane kept us enthralled with photos of Hampton Court, examples of historical needlework from museums and the RSN’s collection that she is now archiving as a volunteer, as well as her own stitching and embroidery projects showing the techniques she learned during the course. We learnt that the work of the Royal School of Needlework is highly skilled, and the level of detail required is quite astonishing.

Members were keen to ask her lots of questions after the talk and we were able to view a display of beautiful examples of Jane’s work, one of which , she modestly admitted had won a design award and had been exhibited in a gold work exhibition at The Guildhall in London as well at the NEC in Birmingham!
